In the Washington, D.C. area, Bryan Voltaggio’s craft diner Family Meal opened out in Frederick, Md. A Bar at Avenue Suites began service with a small plates menu. The Brixton is set to open this weekend. Azuma Izakaya will debut shortly with a menu boasting both shabu shabu and robata. Mother Ruckers Subs is aiming for an October rollout. Passion Food Hospitality will open Mexican restaurant Fuego Cocina and Tequileria in the old Market Tavern space in the coming months. Two Proof alums – Sommelier Sebastian Zutant and Executive Sous Chef Mike Friedman – will open the Italian-American Red Hen later this year. RedRock’s Pizzeria will open a third location in the next year. Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant is moving to a new location just down the block. Caribbean Breeze closes this weekend; it will reopen in August as A-Town Bar and Grill.
In Philadelphia, David Ansill is back in town behind the burners at Bar Ferdinand after a gig in Jamaica fell apart. Ken Poon (Ken Shin Asian Diner) will open the bubble tea room Tea-Do in the next few months. This fall, Michael Santoro and Michael Dorris will open a to-be-named Brit-focused restaurant. Stephen Starr aims to open a new restaurant close to Frankford Hall. Bottom of the Sea has sunk.
In Stamford, Conn., popular New York state BBQ joint Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is opening a location.
In Boston, the Asian-inspired Empire is set to open in the next month with Executive Chef Kevin Long overseeing the menu. Bobby Flay will open a Burger Palace in the Burlington Mall later this year.
In Nantucket, Mass., Chad Hudson (True Food Kitchen) has nabbed the executive chef title at Breeze Bar & Café at The Nantucket Hotel & Resort.
