Top Chef All-Star alumnus Angelo Sosa is chef-partner at small-plates eatery Añejo Tequileria y Restaurante, which opens on Tuesday with Joshua Wortman at the bar. Mathieu Palombino (Motorino) opened his American brasserie, The Bowery Diner, while Momofuku Ssäm Bar’s Francis Derby welcomed his first patrons at King. Husband-and-wife team Dean and Maya Jankelowitz (Balthazar) opened the café-styled Jack’s Wife Freda. Portland, Ore. superstar Andy Ricker opened Pok Pok Wing in the former BaoHaus space. The organic burger joint BareBurger, Italian trattoria Va Beh, Greek-focused Village Taverna, and Alex Volland’s (Pardou) Barrio 47 all started service. And The Wayland opens this weekend in the old Banjo Jim’s space with a rustic American menu that includes everything from bone marrow to smoked trout.
The Stand comedy club and restaurant is taking over the former Truffle space, while Donald Trump has taken over the old Milk Street Café space to open Trump Street Bar & Grill in February.
Pete’s Downtown, The Moldy Fig, Golden’s Deli, Little Giant and Pink Tea Cup have all closed. Pink Tea Cup Owner Lawrence Page opened a bar, Auberge Laurent, in the Harlem space originally planned to be the uptown location of Pink Tea Cup; he plans to find a new location for the cafe nearby.
